CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, May 28 — The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) in Region 3 is enhancing the skills and knowledge of various response teams in Central Luzon on disaster preparedness, rescue and relief operations in an effort to effectively respond in times of calamities.
Josefina Timoteo, chairperson of the RDRRMC and regional director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Central Luzon, said they started conducting various trainings focused on capability building techniques of the local disaster risk reduction management councils such as the institutionalization of the Incident Command System (ICS).
"The ICS is what we are going to use in case of disasters so that our response be done systematically," Timoteo said.
The ICS is a systematic tool used for the command, control, and coordination of emergency response in case of disasters such as typhoons, floods and disease outbreaks.
Likewise, she said the RDRRMC, together with other concerned government agencies, have recently conducted seminar aimed to find solutions on problems experienced during the past calamities.
"We have planned and drafted a guide tool which we are going to use all over the region in regards to disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation response as well as rehabilitation and recovery," she said.
She cited the importance to train the RDRRMC personnel so that they will be better prepared when calamities strike, particularly in low-lying areas of the region.
"Our ultimate objective is to reduce the damages brought by disasters and of course, zero-casualty during calamities," she added. (PNA)
