MANILA, May 27 — Court Administrator Atty. Jose P. Midas Marquez on Monday said the creation of new regional trial courts and metropolitan trial courts will help in the fast delivery of justice in the cities and municipalities.

This, after President Benigno S. Aquino III signed into law 11 proposed bills creating the new MTC and RTC branches in Makati City, Puerto Princesa City, Argao town and Danao City, both in Cebu, Sta. Cruz in Laguna and Midsayap in North Cotabato.

Among those which will have new courts are Cotabato City, Cauayan City in Isabela, Gumaca town in Quezon, Barili town in Cebu and Ormoc City, Leyte.

According to Marquez, the creation of new courts can help in reducing the "backlog" of cases.

However, Marquez said, the operation of the new courts can only start after their actual creation which usually takes about two to four years after the enactment of the law.

The Supreme Court will designate the numbers of the newly-created court branches.

The funds for the operation will be released once the appointment of employees of the new courts is completed and after the actual creation of the courts. (PNA)
