TACLOBAN CITY, May 20 — Local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas will be closely monitored by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to ensure the smooth implementation of their respective transition plans.

DILG regional director Pedro A. Noval Jr. said that it is important that even incumbents that were re-elected “be briefed of the present condition of the municipality that they are in.”

“That will serve as their benchmark information. Based on that, they could now plan on what action to take to realize the vision of the administration,” he added.

Noval said that with the utilization of the benchmark information and the LGU vision could help local officials determine the future state that they would like to achieve.

“Based on the two conditions they can easily identify the gaps and prepare their objectives so they can identify programs and projects that they will undertake to address gaps and ultimately realize their vision,” he explained.

Consequently, the LGU would be able to come up with a workable and implementable executive-legislative agenda that will complement the Comprehensive Development Plan of the locality, he added.

Based on the assessment of the DILG around 85-90 percent of re-elected officials in the region are incumbent.

The elected officials will assume their respective posts noontime of June 30. (PNA)
