MANILA, May 15 — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said they have received reports of possible failure of elections in Lanao del Norte.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said they are still waiting for the official report from their personnel in the said province.

“We have received reports of possible failure of election pero inaantay pa namin ‘yung official report of our provincial election supervisor,” he said.

He added that if they decide to declare a formal failure of elections a special election will be held there.

Meanwhile, Brillantes announced for the first time in the history elections in the country, the poll body has not received any reports of failure of elections in Lanao del Sur.

Meanwhile, “sSome good news, for the first time in the history of this country, in Lanao del Sur there’s no any failure of elections…since 1987 there’s always failure of elections there but this May 13 there’s no failure of election in the entire province of Lanao del Sur,” he added.

On the other hand, the poll body chief said an election will be held in one clustered precinct in Compostela Valley, where no elections were held due to the misdelivery of the ballots.

“Kasi napunta yung sa Baguio yung Compostela at yung Compostela na punta sa Baguio, there is no problem in Baguio, in fact Baguio’s COC has already arrived,” he added.

Brillantes explained that they have to conduct the polls in the said area since it will affect the results of the local polls.

“We are now bringing the ballots from Baguio to Compostela to continue the election in Compostela cause it will affect the results,” he added.

With this, he said that they will be notifying the affected voters to inform them about the date of the elections.

“There has to be notices to the voters so we’re going to fix the date either Friday or Saturday for the voters to that particular precinct so voters will be notified,” the poll body chief added. (PNA)
