CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, May 13 – Volunteers expect a 70-75 percent voters turnout in this city although the Commission on Election (Comelec) has yet to release the official figure.

The Comelec said they would release the estimated percentage of voter turnout at 8 p.m., an hour after the official canvassing of votes start.

Voters flocked to assigned precincts as the Comelec officially opened polling precincts at 7 a.m. Monday to cast votes.

However, many of them went home due to overcrowding of their assigned precincts but came back to vote in the afternoon .

Cirilo Nala, provincial Comelec supervisor, said those within the 50-meter polling places at the close of the casting of votes at 7 p.m. would still be allowed to cast their votes.

There are 277,930 registered voters in Cagayan de Oro City’s 1,745 precincts which were clustered into 360 precincts in 61 polling centers here.

In the 2010 elections, 76 percent of the more than 2.4 million voters cast their votes in Northern Mindanao with Misamis Oriental’s casting a 77 percent of its total registered voters. (PNA)
