(Election) Central Visayas police chief orders cops to secure local poll winners

May 13, 2013 10:35 pm

CEBU CITY, May 13 — Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Marcelo Garbo Jr. Monday assured his men will secure all winners in the local elections.

Garbo made the assurance amid expectations of protests from contending parties, especially in hotly-contested areas.

In a press conference, Garbo said the police will secure the winners regardless of party affiliation, whether they are from the administration or the opposition.

Garbo said the police had been relentless in their campaign against loose firearms and armed persons in Cebu and elsewhere in Central Visayas.

The respective board of canvassers in the different towns and cities in Cebu have immediately convened after polling precincts closed at 7 p.m. and the board of election inspectors (BEIs) from clustered precincts began transmission of election results.

The Cebu Provincial Board of Canvassers chaired by Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Eddie Aba also convened but had declared a recess.

It will reconvene at 10 p.m. (PNA)
