PPCRV reveal vote-buying by barangay

MANILA, May 7 — An official of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) revealed that vote-buying these days does not only involve a person or two but an entire barangay.

Ana Singson, PPCRV Media and Communications director, said the situation now based on the reports they received that some people are also buying an entire barangay.

“In 2010, they were buying families, in 2013 we heard they are now buying an entire barangay,” she said during the launching of the PPCRV Command Center and Unofficial Parallel Count for the May 13 polls at the Pope Pius XII Center in Paco, Manila Tuesday.

However, she could not recall the amount being given to people,

Singson said they started receiving information since February through the social media networking sites such as on Facebook particularly in Northern Luzon and Mindanao.

“We are getting reports of people roving at night with CVLs (computerized voters list) asking people to sign. Most of the people thought its part of the election but that is already part of the process of vote buying,” she said.

On the other hand, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on Tuesday blessed the Command Center of thePPCRV and the Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).

Before the blessing, a concelebrated Mass was presided by His Eminence together with retired Novaliches Bishop Teodoro Bacani, Paranaque Bishop Jesse Mercado and Manila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez.

The Church-based group is the accredited citizens arm of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the May 13 polls. (PNA)
