CEBU CITY, May 3 -– Presidential sister and popular television host and actress Kris Aquino finally broke her silence on persistent rumors about her plan to join politics.

In a press conference here on Friday, Aquino announced she might run in 2016 but not as senator nor in a higher position.

”I think not national right away, I want a local position. I want to be an executive whether a mayor or a governor,” she told the local and national media covering event at the Laguna Garden Café, Ayala Center here.

Aquino, however, quickly clarified that Makati City, where she is a resident, is out of the target list.

”My problem is because I live in Makati City and it seems I cannot outplace the Binays there, so I have to find another city in Metro Manila where I can transfer and run for mayor,” said the youngest sister of President Benigno S. Aquino III.

”I cannot beat them because they have been there since the time of my mom (late President Corazon Aquino) and they have done excellent services because even those working for me receive benefits from their yellow card,” she added.

The popular TV host is also considering her home province in Tarlac.

”Possibly in Tarlac, because Governor Vic Yap will have his last term this 2013. So he is giving it to me if I want. So let’s see,” Kris Aquino said.

Kris Aquino said she would ask her friend Senator Francis Escudero to be her mentor as part of her preparation before finally entering the world of politics.

”I really wanna study first. Senator Chiz will be in charged how can I take master in public administration, hopefully become top of the class. I want to have credentials,” Aquino said.

”I don’t want to present myself as daughter of Cory Aquino, sister of PNoy, or Kris as actress and TV personality. I want to have my own contribution to our country. I have to prepare for that,” she added.

When asked if Kris Aquino has the potential to follow the footsteps of her parents and brother, Escudero said the popular TV host has the quality to become leader just like her parents.

”That question needs no long answer. She has the blood of Aquino, blood of President Cory, of (late senator) Ninoy and of President Noy. We all know them who served our country. That’s the same quality we can expect from her,” Escudero said.

Aquino said one of her advocacy could be on the timely payment of the right amount of taxes to government.

”All of us should be honest in paying our taxes,” she said.

For her part, senatorial candidate Grace Poe admired Kris Aquino for admitting that she would be needing long preparation before entering politics.

”She is very intelligent. She is very humble in saying that she needs further studies so that she will be more qualified,” Poe, daughter of former action movie king Fernando Poe Jr., said.

Kris Aquino joined Escudero and Poe in a two-day campaign sortie, endorsing the two Team PNoy senatorial candidates not only here in Cebu but in the cities of General Santos, Davao and Tacloban.

In front of the Cebu media, Kris Aquino also endorsed Liberal Party gubernatorial bet Hilario ‘Junjun’ Davide Jr. and his running mate vice governor Agnes Magpale. (PNA)
