Drilon: More development projects for Iloilo under PNoy

ILOILO CITY, May 3 — Ilonggo Senator Franklin M. Drilon has assured more development projects for the city and province of Iloilo in the next three years under President Benigno Aquino III.

Speaking before supporters in Banate, Iloilo recently, Drilon, chairman of the Senate committee on Finance, is batting for the Liberal Party candidates in Iloilo to win in the May 13 midterm elections.

"The President is present in the next three years and with me around, we can do things for development of Iloilo until 2016," Drilon said.

The Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Development Project (JRMP) is the biggest administration project outside of Luzon to help irrigate an additional 32,000 hectares of farmland in 22 towns and push from 120,000 metric tons of harvest without JRMP to 360,000 metric tons with JRMP, Drilon said.

This is expected to address hunger in the countryside with additional component of bulk water and power supplies.

Furthermore, the national government will add the budget of poverty alleviation projects by next year such as P40 billion to P45 billion for 4Ps beneficiaries throughout the country.

Similarly, the national budget of PhilHealth will be doubled next year from P12.5 billion to P25 billion with free medicines to benefit from 5 million families to 10 million poor families. The current 66,000 classrooms will be increased to 66,800 by 2014.(PNA)
