CALABANGA, Camarines Sur, May 3 — The wife of former Local Government Sec. Jesse Robredo on Friday said that the people of Camarines Sur fully support President Benigno S. Aquino III and the administration’s Team PNoy because his government had succeeded where past administrations had failed – instituting real reforms.

Atty. Leni Robredo, who is seeking the congressional post in the 3rd District of CamSur, said during a large rally held in the town of Calabanga that the people were given new-found hope with the continuing progress and development under President Aquino.

Calabanga is the biggest town in the district and also the richest in terms of natural resources with half of its 22 villages situated along the coast and the other half situated in mountainous yet highly arable lands.

But despite its riches, Robredo noted that poverty was rampant during past administrations due to the lack of basic social services and modern infrastructure brought about by empty promises of traditional politicians that ruled CamSur for generations.

“The people knew well that our province’s history has been one of deep hopelessness and poverty due to these empty promises,” she said.

But owing to numerous projects initiated by the national government in the province, Robredo said Bicolanos have now reason to hope that their lives would be uplifted at last.

Among the said projects are the Naga City Hospital that the President inaugurated earlier in the day, and 52 irrigation projects completed with 15 more under various stages of construction that would benefit farmers in 27 barangays (villages) .

Meanwhile, the Bicol Commuter Train, which will run from Naga City to Legazpi City in Albay, is set to be completed by April next year.

The P50-million Sabang-Calabanga port project is also set to be bid out by the Department of Transportation and Communications by August.

Likewise, the number of beneficiaries under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) had already reached 108,497 households by March 2013 from just only a mere 3,970 households in 2010.

“President Aquino’s “Tuwid na Daan” had given the people new-found hope and they acknowledge the simple truth that the present government had the will and determination to undertake real reforms to uplift the lives of the people, most especially the poor,” Robredo said.

She assured the President that Bicolanos would lend their hand to his government in attaining real reforms, not only for the sake of Bicolanos but also for the whole country.

“Habang binabaybay natin and tuwid na daan, nasa likod po niyo ang mga taga-CamSur at kasama niyo kaming maghahatid ng asenso sa ating mga kababayan,” Robredo told the President. (PNA)
