LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, May 2 — Liberal Party senatorial candidate Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara said his first priority bill if he gets elected is a law creating the Unified Assistance to Students in Higher Education (UnifAST).

Presently Chairman of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education, Angara said UnifASt is the product of a one-year study of his Committee that encompasses all government scholarships.

He explained that the bill identifies vital factors as the grounds and basis in choosing scholars.

Angara pointed out that the government should focus on long-term goals, one way of doing this, according to him, is by investing on education.

There should be more scholarships both for Technical Vocational and degree courses, he stressed.

In the same manner, he said there should be enough jobs in the country.

He also endorsed the institutionalization of ladderized system of education such as the K to 12, noting that this is perfect for the country to make education more accessible to more Filipinos and to improve the quality of the country’s educational system.

Angara is one of the authors of the Kindergarten Education Act and the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013. both of which are included in the K to 12 series of laws.

The son of Sen. Edgardo Angara and three-term Congressman of Aurora is recognized as the most “prolific and hardworking member of the House of Representatives” for filing the most number of bills of national importance that were enacted into law. (PNA)
