VICTORIA, Tarlac, May 1 – The Team PNoy senatorial candidates lived up to their promise to step up efforts in the final homestretch of the election campaign to achieve a target 12-0 in the May 13 midterm polls.
A total of seven candidates and two proxies showed up on Wednesday in a campaign rally held inside the full-packed Bulagawang Kalayaan here attended by President Benigno Aquino III, the main endorser of the ruling coalition.
Among the senatorial candidates who appealed for support from the voters of Tarlac include Aurora congressman Sonny Angara, Jamby Madrigal, Antonio Trillanes IV, Ramon Magsaysay Jr., Risa Hontiveros, Aquilino Pimentel III and Grace Poe.
Reelectionist Seantor Loren Legarda and Bam Aquino sent representatives while Cynthia Villar, Alan Cayetano and Francis Escudero were no show in the President Aquino’s home province.
Madrigal appealed for support of the Tarlac voters while urging the people of Victoria town to vote Liberal Party mayoralty candidate Rex Agustin.
”You’re lucky because you will have now a mayor who is not disrespectful,” Magdrigal said to the delight of the big crowd.
Agustin is running against Victoria incumbent mayor Candido “Jeni” Guiam III who reportedly ordered to switch off the power solely to the area where President Aquino was campaigning for president in 2010 here.
In media interview, Madrigal said she will come out soon a political ad with somebody from showbiz endorsing her.
”Just wait and see,” Madrigal answered when pressed to name her would be endorser that would hopefully improve her rating in the survey.
Madrigal is presently the only Team PNoy candidate out of the so-called winners’ circle in the previous surveys of Pulse Asia and Social Weather Station.
Trillanes took the opportunity to thank the people of Tarlac for the support in the 2007 senatorial election while asking anew to vote for him in the forthcoming election.
”It’s my first time to visit here because I was still in jail when I ran for senator in 2007. I will continue to fight for those who are being oppressed with the support of the President’s Tuwid na Daan (straight path) policy,” Trillanes said
For his part, Magsaysay also appealed for support not only for him but for the whole Team PNoy.
”We have to support the whole Team PNoy. We have to unite in supporting the agenda of our President who is your fellow Tarlaceno,” Magsaysay said.
Hontiveros said she is still hoping to boost her low public awareness in the remaining 12 days of election campaign despite running out of funds to support her political ads on television.
”I’m still finding resources for my ads because if you will notice, since yesterday my ads have already stopped airing on television because I already used all my resources,” Hontiveros said
Based on the results of the latest Pulse Asia polls, Hontiveros has already entered the so-called winners’ circle but she felt she still needs to work hard.
With almost all of the Team PNoy now in the winner’s circle of the latest survey, Pimentel said the 12-0 is now possible. (PNA)
