Local employers hire 1,866 job applicants in Baguio jobs fair

BAGUIO CITY, May 1 — Local employers Wednesday hired on the spot 1,866 job applicants during the first day of the Labor Day job fair here, according to Regional Director Delfina Camarillo of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and staff of the Dept. of Labor and Employment here.
The DOLE collated reports that since 8:00 a.m., more than 4,000 job seekers applied for jobs offered by 31 private firms and some local government units in the Cordillera region.
Most of the hired applicants will be employed by the business sector in the hotel and restaurant.
Other hired applicants will be working as skilled workers in various construction projects in the localities, while the rest will be working under the information technology sector.
A few will be working in local agriculture-based firms.
Camarillo said the DOLE and POEA will expect more applicants Thursday when the more than 20 foreign recruiters will offer jobs abroad for skilled workers and professionals.
To date, the lists obtained from these prospective foreign employers will be hiring engineers, skilled workers especially in the field of welding and carpentry, and other professionals like teachers and health workers.
Camarillo has asked the interested applicants to always bring their credentials and other documents for the evaluation of their prospective employers. (PNA)
