MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan, April 30 — Police and arson experts here are investigating a mysterious fire that gutted five campaign vehicles (barkers) of local candidates of the United Nationalists Alliance (UNA)in this city early Tuesday morning.
Former city councilor and UNA–Malolos spokesman Dennis San Diego said that two barkers of UNA mayoral candidate and former city mayor Danilo “Danny” Domingo, two barkers of city councilor candidate Vino Mercado and one barker for the city’s UNA ticket were all gutted by a mysterious fire that broke out at around 2:00 a.m. in a compound in Barangay Lugam here.
San Diego said they are still awaiting the results of the investigations conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Malolos City Police Station.
He said the five vehicles, two elf pick-up trucks and Tamiya pick-up trucks, were parked at the compound’s garage at around 8:30 Monday night after a house- to- house sorties of the local candidates of UNA in Barangays Balite and Dakila earlier in the day.
He said that the vehicles would usually leave the garage for the sorties of UNA mayoral bet Domingo and his team in the different villages of the city.
He said that all their campaign vehicles are properly checked regularly and are in tiptop conditions.
The fire also destroyed the sound systems attached in the burned vehicles.
When asked if there is foul play or if politics is involved, San Diego said that "I hope it was not because politics is just one day and should not be tainted with violence."
He said that the loss of their five vehicles will affect the campaign sorties because they have to replace it in order to continue their campaign in the different villages of the city.
"It was an unfortunate incident. But we will continue with our campaign," San Diego said. (PNA)
