COTABATO CITY, Apr. 28 – – Though they belong to opposing political parties, United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) – Maguindanao gubernatorial bet Tocao Mastura said he is supporting a candidate of the ruling Liberal Party (LP) for the stewardship of the two-city, five-province Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in the forthcoming May 13 midterm polls.

The ARMM comprises the cities of Lamitan and Marawi and the provinces of Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-tawi, Basilan and Lanao del Sur.

“I am supporting the candidacy of LP gubernatorial bet Mujiv Hataman to the ARMM governorship,” Mastura told newsmen here in a press briefing Saturday following a grand political rally attended by an estimated crowd of 200,000 supporters at the grounds of the Datu Paglas Central Pilot School in Datu Paglas, Maguindanao.

Mastura explained that though he and Hataman belong to different political parties, he believes much in the latter’s sincerity to rid the ARMM of graft and corruption.

“He is doing great for the ARMM in pursuing the “Matuwid na Daan’ agenda of President Benigno Aquino III so why would I support another candidate?” Mastura asked.

Hataman would pit against three independent candidates for the ARMM top post in the forthcoming polls namely, Nur Misuari, Pakung Mangudadatu and Yusoph Mama.

The elder Mangudadatu, more fondly called as “Pax” by supporters and friends, is the uncle of reelectionist Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu who is LP-Maguindanao chapter president and lone rival of Mastura to the Maguindanao gubernatorial seat.

The younger Mangudadatu earlier declared that he would also be backing up the bid of Hataman, as they are party mates and both supports the peace and development thrusts of the Aquino administration in ARMM and the rest of Mindanao.

Earlier this year, Mangudadatu and Mastura had inked a peace covenant for the conduct of peaceful and credible elections in Maguindanao. (PNA)
