MANILA, April 24 — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Wednesday announced that search operations for four people buried in a trash slide in a landfill in Rodriguez town in Rizal province last Friday may end.

This after the agency admitted they are having a hard time locating and retrieving the bodies of the victims.

OCD Region 4A head Vicente Tomazar cited information reaching him indicating the four may have ran into different directions when they tried to avoid the trash slide.

He added that the operator of the landfill may stop the search efforts since it is already hampering its daily operations.

Authorities are not discounting the possibility the bodies of the four may have already decomposed in the trash.

On Monday, search operations shifted from rescue to retrieval as hopes dimmed for the chances of survival of the four men trapped in the trash slide.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said last Sunday the search for the four may take three days.

The four were identified as Gary Balahibo, Pablito Esto, Eddie Malano, and Rovidico Olod. (PNA)
