CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, April 24 — The city government has recently approved the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in strategic locations in the city as part of an effort to make this locality a "crime-free city."

According to the Management Information and Information Technology Division (MITD) of the city, there are total of 40 CCTV cameras presently installed in key intersections and thoroughfares in San Fernando, and on dry-run operations,

The installed units represent 60 percent of the total number of the CCTV cameras planned to be put up.

“The idea of setting up cameras around the city would be a big help in identifying and investigating important incidents like road accidents and criminal acts,” said Dexter Dancel, MITD head.

“CCTV cameras can act as a very effective deterrent to thieves and burglars,” Dancel said.

Preliminary testing and observations reveal that the CCTV project is very promising.

The members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) were satisfied with the clear sample video clips captured by the newly-installed CCTV cameras which were presented during the latest council meeting held on April 23.

The MITD assured that more cameras will be installed in other parts of the city in the next phase of the project.(PNA)
