MANILA, April 18 — Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz is looking forward to the visit of Myanmar labor chief, U. Maung Myint, and his party to strengthen the labor migration management systems and services of Philippines and Myanmar.

The Myanmar Labor Minister and his team is set to conduct a study visit in the country on April 22 to 26 as part of the International Labor Organization’s ASEAN Triangle Project which will increase legal and safe migration and improved labor protection to reduce the exploitation of migrant workers in the ASEAN regions.

“The Myanmar delegation will visit Philippine agencies that deal with labour migration; discuss policies and management systems; and see first-hand programs and services that cater to migrant workers,” Baldoz said.

In the five-day study visit, delegates from Myanmar will meet with Baldoz and other DOLE officials to brief Myanmar's labor delegates on the programs and services of DOLE.

They will also visit some DOLE agencies such as the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC), and Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC).

“At the end of the study visit (of Myanmar), we expect Philippine officials to conduct a series of capacity-building activities in Myanmar,” Baldoz said. (PNA)
