SANTA CRUZ, Laguna April 12 — Laguna 4th District Rep. and Liberal Party gubernatorial bet Edgar San Luis has proposed intensifying teaching English in all schools in the country to equip the graduates with its mastery and be globally competitive.

San Luis co-authored House Bill No. 00093 which aims to institutionalize the teaching of English and enrich student’s proficiency in the foreign language in Philippine schools.

The legislative measure also upgrades the use and mastery of the English language not only as one of the media of instruction in the country’s educational system but also to prepare the students for global standards and competitiveness.

“We should accept the reality that in fact all books that contain and explain various disciplines are written in English,” San Luis said.

He said students would have a better understanding of and appreciation in their studies and curricular learning if English is taught early on.

“Teaching them English at an early stage hones their verbal and written abilities and makes understanding and learning in schools faster and easier when they attend college education,” San Luis explained.

San Luis hoped for renewed dynamism among educational institutions on focusing on the English language instruction in Philippine schools as neighboring Asian countries like Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand among others enroll their students here to learn English.(PNA)
