CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, April 09 — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Calabarzon Regional Office and the Calamba City government on Monday jointly launched the expanded special program for the employment of students (SPES) this summer.

Calamba City Mayor Joaquin Chipeco Jr. reported the SPES program has already benefited 3,877 students in the past ten years since this was launched by the city government.

Chipeco said the city government and DOLE support some 570 students this summer where the city will share 60% while DOLE will shoulder 40% of the total P 9,825 wage to be earned per student in 30 working days.

The Calamba city mayor remarked that education for the youth is his priority.

Peter Capitan, head of the city Information, Investment Promotion and Employment Services Office (IIPESO) pointed out that Calamba offers more for the SPES recipients by implementing the 30 day-work period with the maximum salary benefits compared with other LGUs which pay only the minimum and limit the summer work schedule to 20 days.

DOLE Calabarzon assistant regional director Mila Mata cited Calamba City as the first among cities in the region to implement the SPES, which is now on its 19th year.(PNA)
