GENERAL SANTOS CITY, April 5 — Region 12 or the Cotabato Regional Athletic Association (CRAA) is sending a 456-strong delegation in the upcoming 2013 Palarong Pambansa slated on April 21 to 27 in Dumaguete City.

Dr. Sharif Adzhar Sarahadil, Department of Education (DepEd) Region 12 acting assistant regional director, said Friday the delegation started earlier this week their intensive training and preparations for the national games at the sprawling South Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City.

He said they decided to hold the training for CRAA athletes in Koronadal City due to the lack of complete sports amenities in Kidapawan City, which hosted the regional games.

Sarahadil said the training was originally scheduled from March 25 to April 13 but was moved from April 1 to 17 due to the Holy Week break.

The entire delegation is billeted at the Koronadal Central Elementary School–II for the duration of the training, he said.

“The trainings are ongoing and we’re expecting our athletes to be in their peak forms before they leave for the Palaro,” he said.

Sarahadil said the CRAA delegation is composed of 202 athletes and coaches in the elementary level and 254 in the secondary level.

He said the athletes were chosen out of the nine city athletic and provincial associations that competed in the regional meet.

CRAA comprises the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, North Cotabato as well as the cities of General Santos Koronadal, Kidapawan, Cotabato and Tacurong.

The region ranked seventh overall in last year’s Palarong Pambansa, which was hosted by Pangasinan province.

Sarahadil said the delegation, which is bannered by CRAA champion General Santos City, is hoping to improve its performance this year and climb higher in the overall standings.

CRAA is considered as a national powerhouse in boxing, arnis, athletics and in several ball games.(PNA)
