Zamboanga del Sur candidates start campaign

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, April 3 -– The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) led by incumbent Governor Antonio Cerilles on Wednesday attended a mass at the San Jose Parish Church marking the start of the party’s campaign in this province.
Cerilles and his running-mate, Vice-Gov. Juan Regala, were joined by Reps. Victor Yu (First District)and Aurora Cerilles (Second District)and the city and municipal candidates, in a motorcade followed by a proclamation rally in Barangay Dao this city. They were joined by hordes of supporters.
Cerilles is unopposed in his re-election bid for governor since former Dapitan City Mayor Dominador Jalosjos, Jr. was disqualified to seek election in this province.
Jalosjos, the gubernatorial bet of Liberal Party-Nacionalista Party (LP-NP) coalition, was disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) after the Supreme Court (SC) affirmed the decision of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Cebu that convicted him of robbery in 1970.
Cerilles’ running mate, Regala, who is seeking re-election, is contested by former vice-gov. Roy Ariosa of LP-NP collation in the gubernatorial race.
Yu and Cerilles’ wife, Aurora, are being contested by last-term City Mayor Samuel Co and former Zamboanga Sibugay Liga ng mga Barangay (Barangay League) president Marjorie Jalosjos for representatives in the first and second district, respectively.
Both Yu and Aurora are seeking re-election as House representatives.
Meanwhile, the mayoralty post of this city is being contested by Co’s wife, Priscilla Ann (LP-NP coalition) and incumbent vice-mayor Romeo Pulmones (NPC).
