ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 4 — Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar has strongly urged the Basileños to stay united and rally behind the administration party for the progress and development of the province.

Akbar’s call came on the heels as she and her Liberal Party (LP) mates have embarked on a province-wide campaign calling the Basileños to support them.

Akbar, the widow of the late Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar, is seeking re-election for her third term of office.

Rep. Akbar was among the six people who were killed when a powerful bomb ripped through the south wing of Batasan Pambansa complex on November 13, 2007.

The bombing also injured 12 people, including two colleagues of Akbar.

Gov. Akbar encouraged the Basileños to support the candidates of LP from the city, municipal, provincial and regional levels to ensure a united approach in governance.

She said it is important to elect leaders who are allied with Malacañang since this will redound to development and progress of the province.

The lady governor said she decided to join the administration party for the benefit of the province and of the Basileños.

"There will be more developmental projects and progress that would take place in the province once there is unity among the leaders and allied with Malacañang," she added. (PNA)
