MANILA, April 4 — Re-electionist Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay has described his family as a political dynasty of service.

"Yes, we are a dynasty. We are a dynasty of service," Binay told reporters in an interview Wednesday night during the proclamation rally at the corner of Chino Roces Avenue and P. Ocampo in Makati City.

The Binays are being charged as a political dynasty, because aside from him, his two sisters are also running in the May 13 elections.

Makati Rep. Abegail Binay is seeking a re-election bid while Nancy Binay is gunning for a seat in the Senate.

The Binay siblings are running under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), formed by their father, Vice President Jejomar Binay together with former President Joseph Estrada.

Mayor Binay is being challenged by lawyer and former Brgy. Palanan chairman Renato Bondal, who is running under the administration's Liberal Party.

Meanwhile, Vice President Binay defended his family by saying it is not necessarily wrong to form a dynasty if they are all willing to serve the public.

He said it is up to the people to decide whether to vote for his children.

"Sa isang malinis at marangal na halalan, bakit naman hindi sila puwedeng tumakbo (In a clean and honest elections, why couldn't they run)? Tutal tao naman ang bumoboto (It is still the people who will elect)," he said. (PNA)
