Batangas social services award 50 'balay' project beneficiaries

BATANGAS CITY, March 22 -– The Batangas Provincial government here awarded 50 household recipients under its “Balay” housing project financial assistance and carpentry kits to assist the housing constructions and relocation of some communities at risk and prone to disasters.

Batangas Governor Vilma Santos Recto distributed the financial grants of P50,000 to Batangueño residents in Balete and Mataas na Kahoy.

Implemented by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, the “Balay” project beneficiaries were assisted by the barangay officials and municipal social welfare officers of the two Batangas towns.

The family beneficiaries thanked the governor and the Batangas provincial government for the financial assistance and concern for their plight in the past when they stayed in danger zones.

The governor has endorsed the allocation of some P2.5 million and subsequently approved by the provincial legislative council to be earmarked for barangays Magapi and Paligawan in Balete town.

Other recipients were Barangays Kinalaglagan, Manggahan, Calingatan in the town of Mataas na Kahoy.

The Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) conducted the surveys, inspections and validations to the communities and declared the localities as within the calamity danger zone.

The province’s “Balay” Project also espouses the "bayanihan" spirit among the communities here and institutes systematic approach for cooperation and unity among residents and villagers to build or rebuild their homes in safer environments. (PNA)
