DAGUPAN CITY, March 14 — The Pangasinan police declared eight towns and three cities as areas of immediate concern in the province in connection with the May 13 election.
Speaking during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas (KBP) forum on Thursday, Sr. Supt. Marlou Chan, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan police, identified Bolinao, Agno, Infanta, Urbiztondo, Bugallon, Malasiqui, Rosales and Balungao as well as the cities of Dagupan, Alaminos and San Carlos as areas of immediate concern of the police in this election.
Pangasinan itself is among 15 provinces throughout the country earlier tagged by the PNP hierarchy as areas of priority concern.
Chan, who has only served as OIC of the Pangasinan police for two months yet, admitted there was a number of shooting incidents that transpired in separate towns and cities of Pangasinan but they are now addressing all of these.
He said a Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSTOG) is now in Pangasinan to investigate all shooting incidents and identify and file charges against the perpetrators whoever they are.
The task force is now helping neutralize Private Armed Groups (PAGs) to obtain Secure and Fair Elections 2013.
Aside from this, a company from the PNP Special Action Force as well as a contingent from the Regional Police Public Safety Battalion are now in Pangasinan to help the Police Provincial Office maintain peace and order.
He said checkpoint operations of the local police are continuing and their "Operation Katok" on the houses of persons who failed to renew the registration of their firearms have yielded good results.
The police, he said, has organized the Motorists Anti-Street Crime Operatives (MASCO) units even if each police station did not have enough motorcycles.
Chan was happy to note, it is the policemen who are members of MASCO who provided their own motorcycles so that they can perform the job more effectively.
Other police stations, like those in Mangatarem and Labrador, went to the extent of buying motorcycles by installment so that they can form MASCO.
MASCO is the police response against armed men riding in tandem tagged responsible for most of the unsolved killings in Pangasinan. (PNA)
