Brgy. Batasan women's group emerges as champion in QC’s One Billion Rising Dance competition grand finals

MANILA, March 12 – The women's group from brgy. Batasan Dist. II in Quezon City emerged as champion of the One Billion Rising Dance competition held at the QC Hall Monday.

As champion, a cash prize worth P20,000.00 was awarded to the group for their energetic and magnanimous dancing prowess that showcased how women struggle and rise against violence and stop abuse on their rights.

According to the judges, the champion group of women composed of almost all sectors of women from children, work force and elders from brgy. Batasan displayed a performance that successfully met the criteria which are 30% for choreography, 20% for audience impact, 10% for interpretation, 30% for timing and rhythm and 10% for costume.

A cash prize of P15,000.00 was given to brgy. Tandang Sora from the 6th district of QC as 1st place while a cash prize worth P10,000.00 was given to Juan Sumulong High School of brgy. San Roque of the 3rd District of QC for the 2nd place.

The other three non-winning groups of women from other barangays out of the six districts that competed brought home a consolation prize of P5,000.00 each.

Among these is the barangay Nagkaisang Nayon from District 5 of Quezon City.

The One Billion Rising Dance Competition is a contest held in Quezon City in March in celebration of the women’s month with the theme “Kababaihan: Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Landas.”

The competition aims to boost the city government’s advocacy of upholding and protecting women’s rights and increasing awareness by exhibiting their dancing skills to show how women fight against abuse and violence, rise and express their endeavor in promoting women empowerment, according to QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.

The six groups of women that competed as grand finalists from the six districts of QC earlier won as champion during the previously-held elimination round among the 142 barangays. They received an earlier prize of P7,000.00 each when they qualified to join the grand finals.(PNA)
