MANILA, Feb. 28 – Sen. Loren Legarda Thursday urged the students of the University of Centro Escolar to come up with their own programs that would protect the environment in the face of serious threats of climate change.

”You as students of CEU can come up with your own programs on ecological awareness and climate change,” Legarda said in her speech at the awarding of the top contributors to the CEU Kita & Basura Tulong sa Kapwa organized by the school’s student affairs office and science club.

Legarda showed through Powerpoint presentation the devastating effects of the climate change which, she said, continue to threatens water supply, economic growth and right to life.

”You do a lot to protect our environment and help our government in informing the ill effects of climate change,” she told the more than 1,000 students.

In media interview, Legarda said she intends to visit more universities not only for political campaign but to promote environmental awareness.

”For us to have a meaningful political campaign, I should also use this opportunity to promote environmental awareness and inform the public about the threats of climate change,” Legarda said.

Legarda, who is running under the Team PNoy senatorial ticket, met with various groups of overseas Filipino workers in the Senate.

The OFWs thanked Legarda and another re-electionist Senator Aquilino Pimentel III for coming up with legislation that promotes the welfare of millions of OFWs.

The two lawmakers promised to legislate measures that would assure more OFWs to participate in the elections even they are working abroad. (PNA)
