NPA leader arrested in Negros Occidental

MANILA, Feb. 25 — Units of the 3rd Infantry Division and its police counterparts have successfully nabbed a ranking New People's Army (NPA) leader during operations in Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Saturday.

Major Gen. Jose Z. Mabanta Jr., 3rd Infantry Division chief, identified the arrested rebel as Joel Baron Danioso alias "Ewen" and "Ewel Danioso", suspected commanding officer of the NPA's "Yunit Milisya" of the North Negros Front.

He was arrested 5:30 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Malatas, Calatrava town, belated reports from the military said.

Mabanta said Dionisio was nabbed on the virtue of a warrant of arrest for robbery and homicide issued by Presiding Judge Katherine Go of the Regional Trial Court Branch 59 in San Carlos City.

"This is continuous law enforcement operation is part of your Army’s commitment in protecting the communities, government and private establishments so that the people will live in a more secure and peaceful environment,” Mabanta said. (PNA)
