China welcomes national dialogue in Bahrain

MANAMA, Feb. 9 — The Chinese government on Friday welcomed the second round of National Consensus Dialogue between the Bahrain government and political societies.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said China aspires achieving success of the National Consensus Dialogue in order to consolidate the foundations of national unity, security and stability for long-term development in Bahrain.

The dialogue starts Sunday and will be held thrice a week.

Bahraini Minister of State for Information Affairs and government spokesperson Sameera Rajan told Chinese channel CCTV the second round of dialogue that coincides with the Chinese New Year on Feb. 10 will focus on national agreement on some political issues and on finding solutions for these within the constitutional and legal framework that would stop further violence and terrorism.

Representatives from different political societies, including the largest opposition group Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, will be participating in the talks that parliament and Shura (Consultative) Council members will attend.

The talks will continue until parties reach consensus on political issues which will be forwarded to government for necessary implementation. (PNA/Xinhua)
