DAVAO CITY, Jan. 24 — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region has provided the Land Transportation Office (LTO) here with the updated list of accredited helmet brands and importers and serial numbers of the stickers issued from 2009 to 2012.
DTI-Davao City Field Office director Teolulo T. Pasawa said they also met with LTO regional officials and enforcement personnel in a bid to discuss matters concerning the implementation of the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
In the meeting, the DTI briefed the LTO participants on the relevant points of the Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) Memorandum Circular No. 01 and 01-A, series of 2012 as basis for the certification of helmets and visors for motorcycles.
DTI also gave a session on the identification of genuine Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers, especially the special features which only trained individuals are equipped to determine.
Pasawa, who spearheaded the discussion, said such meeting was so important considering that the LTO is responsible for the enforcement of the law especially in apprehending those who are using motorcycle helmets which don’t bear the required markings.
“Hopefully, by giving them inputs on how to detect the genuine ICC stickers from the fake ones, our LTO enforcers will find their job easier. By getting hold of the control numbers, the enforcers will have a concrete basis if the ICC sticker on the helmet that is being inspected is indeed issued by DTI,” he said.
Pasawa said DTI is on-call anytime should the LTO enforcement officers need to verify something relative to this.(PNA)
