ILOILO CITY, Jan. 18 — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Iloilo provincial office will conduct a massive voter’s education campaign during the entire month of February and as soon as it receives the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines that it has requested from their central office.
Comelec Iloilo Supervisor Atty. Elizabeth Doronila said that although they have some PCOS machines that had been used in the 2010 elections in their possession, they need some additional to be used in the May elections.
She said that they are waiting for the PCOS machines so they could start giving education and demonstration on its usage in the 42 towns and one component city of the province as well as in Iloilo City.
“Each clustered precinct should have a PCOS machine and in Iloilo City and province we have 2,405 clustered precincts,” Doronila said.
She cited that they also would like to request from their central office PCOS machines that would just be on standby in case those allocated in the precincts experience technical problems just like what happened in the 2010 elections.
She added that they are also counting on the local government units to assist them in the voter’s education campaign. (PNA)
