MANILA, Jan. 17 – Thanks to Internal Peace and Security Plan "Bayanihan", the nation is now closer to winning the peace, newly-appointed Armed Forces chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Emmanuel T. Bautista said Thursday.

"Bayanihan" is the community development strategy adopted by the military in combating insurgency in rural and far flung areas.

"Our IPSP is working because of the 'Bayanihan' spirit that has been rekindled in all stakeholders. Together as a people, we are closer now in winning the peace. As the AFP takes on a support role in achieving and maintaining peace and security, we see more empowered communities and deepening of democratic institutions – the foundations of a peaceful society," he added.

Bautista also said the success of "Bayanihan" can be attested by the fact the government is now in the midst of active developments in the peace process with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Cordillera People's Liberation Army, to name two.

"The signing of the Framework Agreement on the 'Bangsamoro' is a national triumph for peace," the AFP chief emphasized.

"It is also a giant stride for IPSP 'Bayanihan'. Our active support and adherence to the primacy of the peace process has greatly contributed in the forging of the agreement. We hope that the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front will likewise pursue the road to peace and abandon the armed struggle. As we have long realized, armed struggle is not the solution to our problems," Bautista pointed out.

The AFP chief also pointed out that "Bayanihan" is anchored on the coming together of the entire Filipino nation in the pursuit of peace. (PNA)
