Magnitude 4.6 quake hits Surigao Del Norte

MANILA, Dec. 28 — A magnitude 4.6 earthquake rocked parts of Surigao Del Norte on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its bulletin, the agency said the quake, with its epicenter located at 120 kilometers northeast of Burgos in Surigao Del Norte, occurred at 1:10 a.m. Friday

Phivolcs said the tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 43 kilometers.

The agency said no damages or casualties were reported and aftershocks are not expected as well.

Meanwhile, a magnitude-4.8 quake hit the Masbate area on Thursday night, even as state seismologists warned of possible aftershocks.

Philvocs said the quake was recorded at 9:41 p.m. and the epicenter was estimated at 7 kilometers northeast of Uson in Masbate.

The agency said the tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of six kilometers

Phivolcs said that Intensity 4 was felt at Masbate, Masbate; Uson, Masbate; San Jacinto, Ticao Island; while Intensity 3 in Irosin, Sorsogon and Intensity 2 in Legaspi City. (PNA)
