MANILA, Dec. 27 — At least three people were reported killed in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Quinta (Wukong), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Thursday.

NDRRMC executive director Benito Ramos said three people were killed in Barangay del Pilar in Maydolong town in Eastern Samar. They were identified as Rodrigo and Rosita Busa and their seven-year-old child. Their house was hit by a falling tree.

Ramos also said at least two people were reported missing in the Visayas in the wake of Quinta, which is now heading towards Palawan.

He added that 23 towns in Capiz, Iloilo and Aklan were hit by floods.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said at least 14,102 people, 785 rolling cargoes and 144 vehicles were stranded as of 6p.m. Wednesday.

In Aklan, meanwhile, Kalibo civil defense officer Terence Toriano said a flash flood hit Kalibo town Wednesday night.

Toriano said that while they conducted a preemptive evacuation of flood-prone areas, many were “hesitant” to go.

“Reports reaching us indicated the flash floods were beyond a normal person’s height as of 9 to 10 p.m. Wednesday,” he said.

He said his staff went house to house in asking people to evacuate but many declined saying they had “been through this before,” referring to Typhoon Frank in 2008. (PNA)
