City dad alerts public on fake money

ILOILO CITY, Dec 24 — Iloilo Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is alerting the public to be vigilant against the proliferation of fake money this Christmas season following several complaints from business establishments in the city.

Mabilog also directed the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO)to conduct massive surveillance operations and arrest persons who spread the fake money or involve in the proliferation of fake P200, P500 and P1,000 peso bills.

The city mayor said he is not allowing unscrupulous persons to take advantage of the holiday season by spreading fake money.

There were reports that small-scale vendors and medium-scale business establishments are the usual victims of fake money in the city. Also, reports showed that fake money abound in gambling joints and cockpits out to victimize patrons of these joints.

Earlier, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) had given tips to representatives of business establishments and the general public on how to detect money from the real ones. BSP said the one receiving the money must be alert to detect the scam and report immediately to the police. (PNA)
