OCD, RDRRMC, DepEd to conduct earthquake and tsunami drill in Pagadian City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Dec. 18 — The Office of Civil Defense and Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) will conduct school-based earthquake and tsunami drills on Wednesday.

OCD Regional Director Adriano Fuego said the drills will be held at the Santiago Elementary School in Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur province.

Fuego said the drill aimed to enhance disaster preparedness and mitigation and to promote awareness of the community especially among students and teachers.

It was also aimed to assess the capacity level of the schools in the event an earthquake and other form of disasters occurred.

Personnel and evaluators from RDRRMC and other concerned government agencies will observe and evaluate the drill participants and determine whether there are things to be improved or revised.

The participation of the students and teachers in emergency drill was in compliance to DepEd Order No. 84, series of 2012 issued by Secretary Armin Luistro.

Luistro ordered all all bureau and regional directors, schools division and city superintendents, heads of public and private elementary and secondary schools to actively participate in the drill and to submit a consolidated report to the DRRMC, central office.(PNA)
