ZAMBOANGA CITY, Dec. 14 -– Personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Firearms, Explosives, Security Agencies and Guards Section (FESAGS) have confiscated at least 20 boxes of firecrackers worth thousands of pesos in this southern port city.

Insp. Adrian Cayabyab, FESAGS regional deputy chief, said the confiscation was made during inspections they conducted the past few days on stores downtown selling pyrotechnic and firecrackers products.

Cayabyab said they confiscated the firecrackers after the store owners were found violating rules and regulations that govern the display and sale of such products.

The conduct of inspection is in line with the Executive Order 481-2012 issued by Mayor Celso Lobregat that regulates, controls and limits the pyrotechnics and firecrackers allowed to be used, sold and distributed in this city by licensed dealers, Cayabyab said.

Citing provisions of Republic Acts 7183 and 7160, Lobregat’s order strictly prohibits the use, sale and distribution of firecrackers, such as but not limited to piccolo, triangulo, super lolo, watusi, El Diablo, Judah’s belt and whistle devise among others.

Cayabyab said the confiscated firecrackers, which comprise of different kinds, would later be destroyed in full public view.

Meanwhile, he said they would also conduct inspection in other parts of the region to ensure that the dealers of pyrotechnics and firecracker products comply with the existing law. (PNA)
