CEBU CITY, Dec. 7 — The Cebu City Government is set to implement some P100 million worth of drainage projects in 19 sites in 12 barangays.

The funds for the projects will be taken from City Hall’s P5.2-billion budget for this year.

Based on the records of the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW), the drainage projects will be implemented in Barangays Luz (P838,833), Parian (P9,024,897), Kalubihan (P5,372,126), Sto. Nino (P22,634,685), Sawang Calero (P3,787,486), and Pahina Central P667,621).

Similar projects will be implemented in Barangays Basak Pardo (P3,492,183), Basak San Nicolas (P8,659,278), Guadalupe (P31,000,000), Carreta P3,000,000), Kamputhaw P4,314,606), and Ermita P7,208,285).

DEPW construction division chief June Nadine Sison said the projects will be implemented only this month because it took them time to survey the sites.

”It took some time to complete the survey because there are many drainage projects,” she said.

The drainage projects form part of the implementation of the P2.4-billion comprehensive drainage master plan, which seeks to address the flooding problem in the city.

The city planned to implement the comprehensive drainage master plan for five years at P400 million per year.

When the executive department proposed P500 million for the projects in the 2012 budget, however, the City Council approved an appropriation of only P100 million.

The executive department proposed P210 million for repair and construction of drainage systems under the P6.7-billion budget proposal for 2013. (PNA)
