CEBU CITY, Nov. 24 — A senior official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cebu said bigger clustered precincts and longer lines of voters are expected in the 2013 elections.

Cebu Provincial Comelec Supervisor Lionel Marco Castellano advised voters to visit their precincts early on May 13, 2013, as the poll body tries to fit up to seven precincts in one cluster.

Castellano said that during the May 2010 elections, only up to five precincts were clustered into one.

He explained that for each clustered precinct, there will be a maximum of 1,000 voters, the same limit set in the 2010 elections.

He said voters' turnout in Cebu during the May 2010 elections was 77.7 percent, higher than the national turnout of 74.9 percent. It was the first time the country automated parts of the voting process.

Meanwhile, the election registration board’s hearing ended Friday and the final number of qualified voters will be determined next week.

In the 2010 elections, there were 3,063 clustered precincts, including those in Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City.

The Comelec national office has 200 reserved PCOS machine for the Province of Cebu. Each clustered precincts has one PCOS machine.
