MANILA, Nov. 11 — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency stressed on Sunday the need to further increase public awareness on the evils of illegal substances to prevent abuse and addiction.
During the opening ceremonies of the celebration of Drug Abuse Prevention and Control (DAPC) Week on Sunday, PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. said that one step in educating the public about the harm of illegal drugs is promotion of healthy lifestyles.
”There is a need to further raise awareness on the harmful effects of illegal drugs and drug abuse in the communities through the promotion of wellness and healthy lifestyle,” Cacdac said.
Cacdac led PDEA personnel at the kick-off events of the celebration highlighted by a three-kilometer fun run where the participating runners converged along Roxas Blvd. southbound lane at 6:00 a.m.
Another attraction of the celebration was the Street Dancing Competition. The theme of this year’s observance is “Kalusugan ay Kayamanan, Droga ay Iwasan.”
“Pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 124 issued on November 26, 2001, the third week of November every year is declared as Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week,” Cacdac said.
The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), in collaboration with the Inter-Agency Council on Drug Abuse Prevention Education (IAC-DAPE), spearheaded this year’s DAPC Week celebration on Nov. 11-17. (PNA)
