WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 — U.S. President Barack Obama has spoken with 12 world leaders over the phone after winning reelection for a second term Tuesday, expressing his desire for continued close cooperation with them, the White House said Thursday.

It said Obama spoke to the leaders of Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Israel and Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as well as the chief of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Possibly due to the time difference, countries in East Asia such as Japan, South Korea and China were not among the 12, despite the Obama administration's strategic shift toward the Asia-Pacific region.(PNA/Kyodo)
