MANILA, Oct. 31 — The lack of "zeal and empathy" of Ang Galing Pinoy Rep. Juan Miguel Arroyo for the welfare of security guards is one of the reasons for the delistment of the party from joining the May 2013 polls.

In its en banc resolution, the Comelec said Arroyo authored only one bill which has gone past the first reading and was referred to the House Committee on Public Order and Safety.

"If one is truly an advocate, he/she is expected to exert his/her best efforts to push for legislation that will alleviate the cause of the sector/s he/she is representing,” the Comelec said.

“We do not know if this is just sheer laziness but to us, this is glaring lack of zeal and empathy for the plight of the truly marginalized,” it added.

On Tuesday, the Comelec issued a resolution cancelling the accreditation of AGP also for its failure to attend the hearings to answer the disqualification case against them.

“AGP’s non-appearance during the scheduled summary evidentiary hearing showed its wanton disregard for the rules and regulations of this Commission,” the Comelec said.

It also said the party-list group does not represent the marginalized and under-represented sector.

Earlier, Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes, Jr said Arroyo has until June 2013 to finish his term in the House of Representatives. (PNA)
