3 Marines killed, 10 others hurt in encounter with ASG men

MANILA, Oct. 28 – Three Marines were killed and 10 others were hurt during an encounter with an undetermined number of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members in Barangay Bakong, Patikul, Sulu Sunday morning.

Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, said that members of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 6 were conducting search operations for ASG kidnapping victims in the area when they were fired upon by ASG men allegedly headed by "Tahil Sali" and "Radullah Sahiron" at around 6:30 a.m.

Three of the Marines were killed while 10 others were wounded in the ensuing firefight that also resulted in the death of two ASG men, one of whom was identified as a certain "Kaisar," Cabangbang said.

The names of the dead and the wounded on the government side were not immediately available.

Western Mindanao Command chief Major Gen. Rey Ardo has ordered the deployment of all naval and air assets of the command to help in the ongoing pursuit operations against the Abu Sayyaf terrorists. (PNA)
