MANILA, Oct. 13 — A Catholic prelate has urged the faithful to pray for former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo following reports of her latest health condition.

“We are a compassionate people. In spite of all the allegations against her, she has served the country in the way she has seen it fit to govern,” said Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros.

He added that Mrs. Arroyo needs prayers during her trying times. “She needs our prayers. May the Lord of Mercy, the Divine Healer, grant her health of soul and body.”

It was reported earlier that Mrs. Arroyo was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City due to coronary ischemia — a condition that affects the flow of blood to the heart.

Last week, the former president was brought to the hospital due to dehydration and body weakness.

On Tuesday, the Arroyo camp filed a motion asking the anti-graft court to allow her to be placed under hospital arrest.

The Sandiganbayan earlier issued an arrest warrant against the former chief executive in connection with the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) intelligence funds during her administration. (PNA)
