BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 11 — One of the only two economic zones in Agusan del Norte and the only economic zones approved by PEZA for Caraga Region is now up for lease from P3.00 Pesos to P5.00 Pesos only per square meter depending on location.

This developed after Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Resolution No. 208-2012 authored by Provincial Board member Atty. Joseph Tomaneng uphold Nasipit, Agusan del Norte Municipal Council resolution no. 008-2012 in determining lease rates or rental for the more than 200 hectare Nasipit, Agusan del Norte Industrial Estate (NANIE).

The approval by the Agusan del Norte SP of the Tubay SB resolution through passage of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 208-2012 now gives investors interested to lease or rent a more flexible rate.

Under flexible rate, the monthly rental fees of P3.00 to P5.00 per square meter of NANIE lands will increase every five years at fixed rate of P5.00 either on temporary basis rental or for short duration of time only.

The said SP resolution outlines considerations in determining rate of rental fees and these are: The Terms and conditions of the contract including duration of lease, the impact of the project to the local economy and social well-being of the people, physical condition of leased area and all other conditions that the Nasipit LGU deemed necessary to amend or not.

In 2009, the Manila Bulletin published a news story, saying that the P50 million palm tree oil milling plant known as AguMill Palm Oil Plant will be established at NANIE.

It boasted that NANIE has still some 78 hectares available for occupancy, it was learned.

AguMill, a palm oil milling plant, is a joint venture between a Malaysian business group and a Philippine business partner, then Mayor Roy Orlando D. Doyon of Nasipt, said.

The Bulletin story stated construction of the AguMill plant started in 2008 and will be completed for operation soon.

Another Agusan del Norte Economic Zone approved by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is the Tubay Agri-Industrial Processing Center (TAPCEN) located in Tubay, Agusan del Norte.

Identified as one of the growth centers in the Caraga region by the Provincial Development Council and NEDA, TAPCEN was intended to become the haven of agri-based manufacturing operations — technology based companies and allied manufacturing activities. (PNA)
