DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 09 – A cargo vessel loaded with an estimated 16,000 bags of fertilizer en route to Mindanao was forced to dock off the coast of Siquijor province after one of its cargo hold compartments was found leaking.

No one was reported injured as the M/V Queen of Joy went ashore off the coast of the Coco Grove Resort in San Juan on Sunday morning to protect its cargo shipment, PO1 Guillermo Bahandi, chief of the Coast Guard detachment in Larena, Siquijor said.

Initial investigation showed that the cargo vessel left Isabela, Leyte on Saturday en route to Dipolog City when crew members found one of its compartments at the cargo hold leaking.

A tug boat came to the rescue and helped unload the fertilizers which were transferred to another vessel that left Monday for Dapitan.

The source of the leak was not yet known even as Coast Guard authorities advised the M/V Queen of Joy ship captain, Lorenzo Giligani, to file a marine protest immediately upon arrival at its next port of call.(PNA)
