12-hour power outage to hit North Luzon provinces

Manila, Oct. 9 — The National Grid Cor. of the Philippines has announced a 12-hour power interruption that would cover the provinces of Cagayan, Kalinga, Apayao and parts of Isabela.

The scheduled shutdown of some of the NGCP’s transmission facilities will take place from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct 11, according to North Luzon Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Officer Lilibeth Gaydowen.

Gaydowen said among the distribution utilities to be affected are Isabela Electric Cooperative I (ISELCO I), Isabela Electric Cooperative II (ISELCO II), Cagayan Electric Cooperative I (CAGELCO I), Cagayan Electric Cooperative II (CAGELCO II) and Kalinga Electric Cooperative (KAELCO).

The NGCP explained the scheduled power outage is intended to make way for the annual preventive maintenance of the power transformer and its associated equipment at Gamu and Santiago Substations.

This would be done simultaneously with replacement of selected transmission line hardware along the Santiago-Gamu 230-kilovolt (kV) line.

“Normal operations will immediately resume after work completion. NGCP’s customers and the general public are advised to take the necessary preparations and precautions for this scheduled interruption,” the power transmission company said.

The NGCP said that the specific cities and municipalities to be affected by the power interruption would be determined by the affected DUs, unless the activity affects the entire franchise area.

“The DU allots the available power within its franchise area and implements the power interruption schedule among the end-users,” it explained.

On the other hand, the NGCP also reported that it successfully restored power transmission services in parts of Nueva Vizcaya and Ifugao last Monday after re-energizing the Bayombong-Lagawe 69-kV line.

Hit by an unplanned power interruption at 9:42 a.m. on that particular day were the customers of Ifugao Electric Cooperative (IFELCO) and portions of the Nueva Vizcaya Electric Cooperative (NUVELCO) franchise area.

Power was restored to IFELCO and NUVELCO at 5:56 p.m. and 1:51 p.m., respectively.

“NGCP continues to strengthen the transmission network done in close coordination with the local distribution utilities. These utilities are working together to improve services to power consumers,” the corporation said.(PNA)
