DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 03 — The National Food Authority (NFA)in Negros Oriental is expecting to receive an increase in the requests for rice allocations from local government units before the end of year until the May 2013 elections.

Dr.Carlos Cortes, Provincial Manager of NFA-Negros Oriental, said on Wednesday they have sufficient rice supply that can meet the demands of the province until the end of the year. He assured they will have enough even in case of calamities and emergencies.

At present, the NFA is still receiving requests of usual number of bags of rice per local government unit in the province.

Cortes clarified that NFA is obliged to serve the needs of every LGU depending on their requests.

He explained that rice allocation requests that will exceed to 500 bags will have to get clearance from NFA Regional office. The NFA regional director will decide if the requests will be granted based on the availability of the buffer stock.

The NFA no longer has the control after the rice will be delivered to the local government units. The local chief executives who purchased the rice will have the authority over the distribution or use, Cortes said.(PNA)
