DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 3 — The municipality of Basay in southern Negros Oriental now enjoys digital cable entertainment and Internet services through the fiber optic technology provided by Fil Products Service Television Inc. (FPSTI).

Basay Mayor Dandilgust Abrio expressed his gratitude to FPSTI for investing in his town, saying it invites economic development and provides revenue and job opportunities for the people.

The mayor issued his statement during the formal opening and inauguration of the FPSTI Basay branch Tuesday.

The ceremony was attended by former Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) president Dr. Henry Sojor, FPSTI-Negros Oriental assistant general manager Cipriano Trajano, Jr., marketing manager Ma. Corazon Bernardez, tourism officer of Basay John Galicia and the local town officials and department heads.

The town of Basay is the first municipality that will enjoy full digital cable entertainment technology and Internet services despite being the last town in the southern part of Negros Oriental.

Mayor Abrio said they have been waiting for reliable cable entertainment and Internet technology for many years. He said Internet technology is very important especially that almost all communications are sent through electronic mail.

The electronic mail is now considered an official way of communication especially in areas that are far from the capital city of Dumaguete, he said.

The people in Basay will also be updated with the latest developments and current events in the province through the local channel of FPSTI.

The mayor admitted that they are almost always late in receiving information because they still have to travel to Bayawan City to pick up their mails. They are only dependent on text messaging but sometimes they have poor signal.

He said he is even planning to put up a website and create an email account for all department heads in the municipal hall for easy and fast dissemination of communications and transactions. The website will become the window for Basay to the entire world, he added.

According to FPSTI-Negros Oriental assistant general manager Cipriano Trajano, Jr., the company believes in the strong potential of Basay for growth and development. He said Fil Products Service Television Inc. is the only cable company in the country that has fiberoptic technology which is certified by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

FPSTI is the pioneer and largest cable company in Negros Oriental with nine branches to date. (PNA)
